Vendor Managed Inventory (VMI)

VMI is an optimized supply chain solution where the vendor takes full responsibility for maintaining an agreed inventory of their product at or near the buyer's location, and the buyer regularly provides replenishment information by issuing purchase orders of the product. In a VMI relationship, the vendor retains the ownership of the inventory until settled payment and deliveries to the buyer. 　 Well-designed VMI operation greatly reduces safety stock of the buyer, cut the cost and assists in JIT production. On the other hand, the vendor also benefits from shorter lead time, better planning and retention of existing customer relationships. 　 As a neutral logistics service provider, CIT provide VMI services to customers under agreements with both the vendors and the buyers.
